03 — Context and constraints
Constraints aren't obstacles. They're the brief telling you where to look.
"Constraints aren't obstacles. They're the brief telling you where to look."
Do this now
List three constraints on your project — time, format, audience, platform. Then write one way each constraint could actually shape or improve the design. Every design lives somewhere. Ignoring that context means designing in a vacuum.
Unpack
Constraints feel like limits but they're actually decisions that have already been made for you. Use them. A designer who works within real conditions makes better work than one who ignores them. Reframe each constraint as a design opportunity — not as a workaround, but as a genuine direction.
Draw it.
Fast and messy is better than perfect.
