01 — Clarify the brief
You think you understand what's being asked. You probably don't.
"You think you understand what's being asked. You probably don't."
Do this now
Rewrite the brief in your own words in under five sentences. Identify one thing that's unclear or missing before you touch anything else. Separate what is fixed, what is flexible, and what is unknown — treat each differently.
Unpack
The gap between what a client says and what they mean is where bad work begins. Fixed elements, flexible elements, and missing information are three different things. Your first assumption about the brief is usually about you, not the problem. Rewriting forces you to own your interpretation and surface what you're guessing at.
Draw it.
Fast and messy is better than perfect.
