Hello, I'm Libbi.
Alongside teaching and making, I'm interested in the role of visual thinking in learning, particularly how sketching, handwriting/lettering and embodied creative processes can support confidence, focus, reflection and idea generation in a fast-moving digital world.
I'm currently exploring a simple but important question: do students who develop visual thinking skills use AI tools more effectively and more intentionally in the design process?
My work sits between visual thinking, design education and creative practice. I'm interested in how drawing, sketching and making help us think more clearly, communicate ideas and move messy thoughts into something meaningful. I believe the page is a place to explore, test and reflect — where ideas are allowed to be unfinished before they become something more.
This site brings that practice into the open: the cards I teach with, daily drawing prompts, visual notes, creative experiments and the messy thinking that happens along the way.
Research
I'm currently exploring how visual thinking skills, including sketching, sketchnoting and handlettering, influence the way students work with AI in graphic design education. The research investigates whether stronger visual thinking leads to more intentional creative decisions, clearer communication and more meaningful use of AI tools.
Drawing for sense-making in design education
My doctoral research explored sketchnoting, visual thinking and the role of drawing as a tool for meaning-making and reflection in design learning.
Visual thinking and AI in design education
Exploring whether students who develop visual thinking skills use AI tools more intentionally and effectively in the creative process.
Testing ideas in the studio and classroom
Many of these ideas are explored through teaching, workshops, Liveworm studio practice and visual experiments with students.
Journal papers and research reflections
Building a body of research around visual thinking, design education, embodied creativity and AI-supported learning.
